CraigsList Computer Section & You

So here I am again browsing through the computer category, and seeing some things that I really find annoying. First I'd like to say that I do understand that CL is not about professionals selling stuf to individuals, but rather the individuals selling stuff to each other. With this in mind I don't think anyone on here expects you to know everything about what you're selling. In fact personally that half the fun is trying to figure out what you've got without much information. That in mind there are a few things that I find rather annoying. For the record due to the speed at which angry people flag things, this will live on for later viewing at my blog (http://www.invalidpage.com) <--- You Are Here :)

1. Great SOHO or Gaming System.
I know, It's an amazing computer that you spent an amazing price for, but just because a computer is an amazing gaming system, doesn't mean it's good for office work. How many office people need an amazing graphics card that can process faster that the CPU? Also, with that primo copy of Windows XP Home edition, the business users are going to have a hard time connecting to the work domain (if they have one).

2. Sideways pictures.
Seriously, open it with Windows Picture and Fax viewer and hit Ctrl-L till it looks right. I'm sick of throwing out my neck because you don't take the time to make your goods look presentable.

3. Laptop, NetTop, Labtop, Notebook, Portable
Seriously, once and for all it's L-A-P-T-O-P. Seeing someone selling a Labtop makes me want to do horrible things to their fingers. Notebook is fine, but remember that most people will be searching for a Laptop.

4. Netbook Buyers beware
It seems to be a disturbing trend for people to sell netbooks for almost the same price on CL that they paid in the store for them. If you are going to buy something off CL at least google search or look it up on ebay to make sure your not paying too much for it.

5. Mac G4 ___ mhz system Like New or Amazingly Fast
First off, Anything with a G-series processor (G3, G4, G5) you probably don't want, unless you're an apple fanboy (like me) who likes to play with older toys. Don't misunderstand, I do highly suggest that your next computer should be a mac, just be sure the ad has the word Intel in it somewhere.

6. If you paid $x for it, it's not worth $x

7. You're six year old computer is not worth $100

8. You're five year old computer is not worth $100

9. You're four year old computer is not worth $100

10. You're Three year old computer is not worth $100 (unless it's a Mac, or a Server class machine)

11. You're Two year old computer is not worth $100 (unless it's a Mac, Server, or you paid more than $2500 for it then)

I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but seriously, most computers start losing value before you get them home. It's not a bad thing, it's just how it works. As long as manufacturers keep making things faster, your stuff keeps getting slower.

Finally to all of those professionals on CL that sell ddaily in the computer category:
There's nothing wrong with that. I do myself sometimes sell daily in the computer category, but if you:
List out all your system specs (like a pro)
AND
charge a price that's twice the going rate
AND
Offer no warranty
THEN
You deserve whatever is coming to you.
